We need strong climate action for Virginia

Our family is very concerned about the consequences of climate change and believe that it is imperative that Virginia take immediate steps to mitigate the worst ones. I support the strongest possible standards to cut our state's emissions from power plants through participation in a carbon market. Therefore, I ask that DEQ use its authority to adopt and implement a final standard that: 1. Caps and reduces carbon pollution starting as soon as possible and acting as quickly as possible. The base year emissions cap should be lower than the suggested 33-34 million tons, preferably between 30 & 32 million. 2. Covers carbon pollution from biomass facilities. Their emissions cannot be carbon-neutral, given that the trees that absorb carbon dioxide grow more slowly than the emissions enter the atmosphere. 3. States that Virginia will continue to reduce carbon poollution even after 2030. 4. Monitors implementation in order to be sure that low-income communities, which have historically experienced higher pollution levels, not continue to suffer those.
