How is dry needling acupuncture?

I have been practicing acupuncture for 10+ years and have been attending physical therapy for multiple reasons. I have received trigger point dry needling by 2-3 different PT's that work in the clinic I attend. I do not understand how all of these posts can day that acupuncture and dry needling is the same thing. I think it is embarrasing that all of these people who say they practice acupuncture can say that dry needling is the same thing, they are completely different techniques for completely different reasons! Each PT that I have worked with has seemed to have a very deep background of anatomy and was very safe throughout the entire process. I had complete trust in the PTs. The dry needling had an immediate impact and I felt such a relief. Physical therapists absolutely should be able to dry needle, they go through rigorous education programs and have a doctorate degree. Physical therapists understand anatomy better than myself or any of my acupuncture colleagues.
