Yes to PT dry needling

Acupuncturists are well qualified to do acupuncture, but they are not the only health care practitioners with knowledge of the body and precision focused treatment. We as PTs receive an extremely high level and amount of anatomy and physiology training as a foundational and fundamental part of our doctorate degree. Virginia then requires special testing and licensing to ensure appropriate use and dosage for the appropriate patient. We are addressing physical trigger points in muscles of our patients similar to how we address them with our manual therapy, but research and clinical experience have shown Trigger Point Dry Needling to have a fast response for the patient that can help them move past their trigger point pain and let us as PTs be more effective with the rest of their therapy. PTs have the knowledge and ability to perform trigger point dry needling and our patients deserve us being able to use any and all appropriate tools to help them return to function and improve their quality of life.
