PT should not be conducting Dry Needling

Yes, it appears that all comments that have been submitted lack knowledge to the definition of "dry needling" If PT would take the time to search and understand the history of acupuncture they would see that dry needling has been the practice in China for over 5,000 years. In China, especially in the East, the term dry needling (gan zhen) has been the name for acupuncture. When Western Medicine arrived in China in the late 1800's the term dry needling was created in order to differentiate it from needles used for injections by Western trained doctors. Proponents of dry needling claim that dry needling is not acupuncture because it works different mechanism than acupuncture. Simply put, this is not true, Acupuncturist work areas such as trigger points, etc. So, just because Western Practitioners, namely, Physical Therapist want to include needling into their practice (money!!!) redfines it in modern bio-medical terms and relables it with another name... doesn't make it something different; just check the history - globally not just in the United States!!! Oh, by the way PT only gets 2 days of acupuncture training, where as, TCM Practitioners train 4 years with 2+ years of clinical work. Remember PT are not licensed to practice   "Acupuncture."
