A large amount of literature already exists and continues to be produced that prove the effectiveness and safety of dry needling when performed by a physical therapist, physician or chiropractor. The federal governing body for physical therapy (FSBPT) has published work that shows that physical therapists have more than enough competence with regard to anatomy, physiology and referral pattern recognition upon their graduation from any accredited physical therapy program. Statements about decreased safety of this technique or its single similarity to acupuncture (the til being used) are thing veiled attempts at a smoke screen to protect financial interests of acupuncturists. It also reflects a severe ignorance of the depth and breadth of the functional anatomy knowledge of a contemporary and licensed physical therapy professional.
