Against Physical therapist practice Dry Needling

I am opposed to the proposed regulation that would authorize physical therapists to practice "dry needling" otherwise known as acupuncture, in violation of Virginia law.  Here are the reasons why I am opposed:

1) Dry needling is outside the physical therapy scope of practice, and the Board of Physical Therapy lacks the legal authority to expand the physical therapy scope of practice to include dry needling and any attempt to do so would violate state law.

2) Dry needling is not safe for PT to use , because physical therapists are not adequately trained in the proper use of acupuncture needles.

3)  Dry needling is the practice of acupuncture.  Dry needling is simply another name for acupuncture.  It involves the insertion of the same needles into points on the skin, just the same as acupuncture.
