Dry Needling should be done by acupuncturists or MDs, not PTs, too dangerous.

Dry needling, a commonly used acupuncture technique, has been used in recent years by PTs with grave consequences to unsuspecting patients. The cases of PTs causing serious harm to patients should be a red flag that they are NOT qualified to needle patients and it should NOT be in their scope of practice. By not allowing PTs to dry needle is in no way removing this option for patients, they still have the option of seeing a licensed acupuncturist or an MD for the procedure. Pneuomothorax and permanent nerve damage are no joke and needling should not be taken so casually. The thousands of hours and years an acupuncturist spend learning how to safely and effectively needle cannot be replicated in a weekend fly by night class for a PT. The patients will be put at risk and danger and they are the TOP priority. Dry needling CAN and SHOULD be done by an acupuncturist or MD.
