For dry needling to be safe and effective, it must be done by Licensed Acupuncturists

Dry needling is the English translation of the Chinese words for Acupuncture. It is, in fact, the technical aspect of acupuncture, ie. the insertion of solid needles into the superficial areas of the body. To be practiced safely, Licensed Acupuncturists have over 2000 hours of training. Even M.D.s who become certified acupuncurists have over 300 hours of training. For PTs to safely and effectively practice acupuncture (dry needling) they should become educated to the same standards and take the same national board exam as licensed acupuncturists. It is very important to protect the health and safety of the people of Virginia by ensuring that health care providers are properly trained in whatever modality they are practicing.
