Oppose Physical Therapists to practice "Dry Needling" without acupuncture license

1. It is a well known fact that acupuncture is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been developed and improved over thousands of years' of practice. l agree that it takes extensive training to adequately understand its theory and clinical applications. To allow non-qualified personnel with minimal training (less than 50 or 60 hours) to modify and deviate from this time-tested and well established clinical practice is a serious mistake that will not only destroy the creditability of acupuncture but also will harm potentially many patients.

2. As licensed physician in the US, I have the responsibilities to safe guard my patients and to ensure that my patients receive credible, safe, and time-tested therapy. The current established acupuncture societies collectively represent the authority in qualification, quality, outcome, and safety of acupuncture profession.

3. Acupuncturist has become a well established profession in the US through decades of effort by Chinese Medicine Physicians along with their colleagues in the US. There are well established training standards, licensing, and credentialing processes, similar to any other medical profession. Such long term establishment helps ensure the quality and standards of the profession. Defending this profession has important implication in preserving the integrity of the medical profession as a whole.

4. As practicing American Physician with Chinese heritage, it is my responsibility to help preserve this unique, clinically proven effective, and traditional Chinese medicine therapy, and not to allow non qualified personals or organization to ruin the reputation and degrade the quality of acupuncturist.

5. Please stop untrained Physical Therapists to practice acupucnture with the name of "dry needling". Our patients have the right to see Licensed acupucnturist with over 3000 hours of training.
