Support for PTs performing Dry Needling

Dry needling is performed by Physical Therapists all over the world and has been part of the practice of Physical Therapy for a long time.  The training is extensive and the techniques taught within the training include a thorough understanding of safe needling technique.  One of the most important things taught in dry needling courses is that we ARE NOT performing acupuncture.  I believe acupuncturists do themselves a disservice by trying to equate the two.  I have always believed that no one profession owns a treatment, just like chiropractors do not own manipulation.  The profession that should use the treatment are the ones that best train their providers and perform research on the approach to provide evidence supporting its use in their care.  All of this is done in the profession of Physical Therapy when it comes to dry needling.
