It was shocking to hear that our Governor is proposing to let residents of Virginia opt out of questions about U.S. citizenship and criminal history on their voter registration application. While I support efforts to encourage more U.S. citizens to vote and even to allow former convicted felons the right to earn back their voting status (under certain conditions), it is incredibly irresponsible to make answering these key questions optional. This is an invitation for fraud and abuse and it will undermine the integrity of elections in our state. I am strongly opposed to these changes and urge that the proposal be categorically rejected. Thank you for your consideration.
