Action | 2015 Voter Registration Application Regulation and Form Update |

Don’t Change the Voter Registration Form and its associated Regulation. Currently, the applicant must specifically answer three important questions - are you a U.S. citizen, have you ever been convicted of a felony and have you ever been judicially declared mentally incompetent. These are three critical questions that need to be answered directly by the applicant and which dictate whether a person is eligible to register to vote. Eliminating these specific eligibility questions on the form negates the spirit and intent of the Code controlling voter registration and would confuse a person's understanding of their voting eligibility.
Also, please do not eliminate the requirement for the voter to provide the additional information of their gender and middle name on the Voter Registration Form. In far too many cases, this information is critical for the Election Officer to identify correctly a voter coming to vote on Election Day. Eliminating this information would increase the amount of time the Election Officer would need to take to correctly identify and process a voter thereby increasing the length of voter lines.
Making any one of these changes to the Voter Registration Form is a seriously bad idea.
