Action | 2015 Voter Registration Application Regulation and Form Update |

The proposed application form does not do enough to ensure the applicant is a US citizen. By law, as a member of the Lexington Electoral Board, I am required to ensure that those who vote are citizens of the United States and therefore eligible to vote. I request the new registration form retain the box to be checked that indicates if the applicant is a lawful US citizen.
There should be a way for General Registrars of Voters and Electoral Board members to acertain if the applicant is a convicted felon and if so has their right to vote been restored. This is the only way we can be certain the applicant is an eligible voter. Without applicants even being asked to give citizenship and felon information, the Registrars and Electoral Boards can not perform their sworn duties to ensure that each voter is, in fact, eligible to vote.
