Proposal to Allow Avoiding Citizenship and Felony Questions

I am writing to object to the proposed change to the rules governing whether people can simply skip questions on their voting affidavits regarding citizenship or felony convictions. Since there seems to be no logical reason for citizens or non-felons to avoid these questions, the only reason for this change is to accommodate people who are not allowed to vote. This simply means that the Board of Elections has taken a position in favor of abetting criminal activity! This is DISGRACE and a complete and utter SHAM!

This proposal flies in the face of our laws. So, I have to question the motives of those who would propose such an action. Why would a regulatory agency propose such changes? Why would they attempt to subvert the laws of our state and the will of the people as expressed by our representatives to the General Assembly? Isn't the purpose of regulatory agencies to provide the proper procedures and oversight to ensure that our laws are followed? The only possible answer is that the agency has decided that they will usurp the authority of the General Assembly and will invent their own set of rules!

But again, why would this be proposed? Unfortunately it appears that the only beneficiaries of this proposal are the politicians that prefer that our state be governed by felons and illegal aliens. So, just ask yourself if this is really the way you want to live - a world where murderers vote through their representatives on budgets for prisons, or penalties for child molestation are set by people elected by felony molesters themselves?

I am strongly opposed to this proposal, and think the Board should be ashamed to propose such an action. I respectively request that you vote this proposal down at the earliest possible time.

Sincerely,

Merwin W. Jones
