I live in Chesapeake, and I am strongly opposed to changing the voter registration application and form.
The proposed form fails to clearly and simply implement the requirements of the Constitution and the statute governing registration. The Executive branch is charged with enforcing standing law (the statute governing voter registration) and with protecting the Constitution. If the Executive Branch approves this new form, it is derelict in performing its constitutional duty, and indeed stands in contempt of the Constitution and the State Code. I consider that an impeachable offense against the Commonwealth, its people and its laws.
Elections have consequences. It is vitally important that the process of validating legitimate electors for all elections in the Commonwealth be simple, legal, easy to accomplish for both the applicant and for the registrar, and protected. The current law, as stated in the Constitution and in the statute, was enacted after lengthy debate and consideration; there is no reason to change it. The current form is more than adequate. Questions arising from applicants are easily answered by the registrars. Leave it alone..
