Improve outcomes, Uphold Standards, Protect Women

Board of Health,

I am advocating in support of the existing Abortion Center health and Safety Regulations. While it would be nice to have abortion sites be self-regulating, the evidence of the past two years with over 300 violations tells us that these regulations need to remain in place and were an important first step in improving the health and safety of women who choose this procedure. As soon as the abortion industry shows itself to be a responsible corporate citizen, then MAYBE we could consider the lessening or regulations. The abortion industry brought this on themselves with very poor practices that had been overlooked and ignored for many year. It will take some time for the embedded laxity to work its way out of ingrained processes. Until the industry shows themselves responsible instead of irresponsible, it will take outside responsible forces like the Board of Health and the two legislative branches of Virginia governance to guide and encourage them to do much much better. We as citizens wait to see the improvements and see no need to change regulations that have brought many failures out of the shadows and into the open. Rev. James R Shaw
