I support stringent health standards for our women

When steel instruments are inserted into the most tender parts of a woman's body in order to snip the spinal chord and crush the skull of her unborn child, it is imperative that all precautions be taken to ensure the health and comfort of the woman as parts and pieces of the child are evacuated from the womb, lest she become infected as a result of having some of her own tissue inadvertently injured in the process. In recently publicized cases in Massachusetts, women have lost their lives in this risky procedure. These women deserve the highest standards of cleanliness, access to only the very most qualified personnel, and the most professional procedures known to modern medicine. At the absolute least, they should expect that already marginal health and safety conditions be maintained, and they should have reason to hope that these conditions will be enhanced over time in every way possible. It is not the purview of men like the Governor to wage war on these helpless women by reducing the health and safety requirements of the abortion clinics in which they seek relief from so much responsibility.
