TRAP

The proposed changes to women's health clinics--these Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers--are medically unnecessary.  Abortions are incredibly safe, with fewer than 0.3% resulting in a complication that would require hospitalization. Abortions are provided in outpatient facilities and have been for years without any evidence of inadequecy or without any issues arising from the current facilities.  As all health care facilities are regulated already, what would be the point of enlarging hallways or making larger treatment rooms, if not to restrict women's ability to an abortion?  These regulations will shut down needed health clinics!

This legislation only targets clinics where abortions are performed--not all health clinics.  This will create undue burdens on women in Virginia and on the clinics themselves.  Estimates for the proposed new requirements will be cost-prohibitive and many of the existing clinics in Virginia will have to shut down.

An abortion is a medical procedure that should be decided upon by the pregnant woman (and her partner) and her doctor.  She shouldn't have to be forced to have a child she does not want because all the clinics that provide abortions were shut down because of arbitrary rules to have wider hallways.  Please, I urge you to vote with what you know is medically just--these TRAP regulations are wrong!
