In Support of the new regulations

I must firstly say thank you for the vote in September to pass the new safety regulations for the abortion clinics.

To me it seems as though common sense would lead many women to want the places they have surgery to have the highest standards for their safety. For me I do not walk into my OBGYN's office thinking "I hope that these places don't have to meet with regualtions because if they do then I might have to drive an hour to be seen by a doctor". When I walk in I want to be thinking that the place I am going into is safe. If I were to go into any doctor's office for a surger I would want to know that if something happened to me that a gurney would be able to get in the door to get me out quickly so I could be taken to the hospital.

I am unsure why this regulation is meeting backlash as it is not a regulation that in any way is regulating a woman's right to abortion. It is a regulation ensuring that a medical facility be up to the standards it should.

I have seen pictures and heard horror stories of women who had botched abortions (http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/two-women-injured-in-alabama-run-down-abortion-clinic-has-no-gurney-access/) two of whom had to be carried out by there arms and legs while they were bleeding all because a gurney could not get in the door and be wheeled out with them on it. I would not wish this on any of the women who go into these abortion facilities and only hope that these regulations stay firmly and place and that each facility is required to meet them.

Thank you,
Sarah Maher
