Regulation of abortion clinics in Virginia

I believe that government should regulate health care providers and facilities, but its regulations should not be used to address non-existent problems. There are quite simply no data showing that health clinics that perform abortions in the State of Virginia are unsafe. Compelling these out-patient facilities to conform to the regulations that govern hospitals and residential care facilities will put many out of business, and that seems to be intent. But making it difficult if not impossible for women in this state to get abortions will not stop abortions. It will just send them underground. No one on any side of this issue wants to see more abortions; our common goal is to reduce the number and to make them a rare occurence. The best way to do that is by ensuring that all women have access to family planning servcies and are encouraged to use contraceptives from the time they become sexually active. Denying them access to a legal abortion is not the way.
