Do Not Adopt!

My son is currentyly identified in math, however, his gifted resource pull out teacher teaches much  more that just mathematics.  If this proposal goes through, he would not qualify for any gifted support and all benefits of the program would be lost.  I'm sure he would continue to excel in math, but it is the out of the box thinking and critical problem solving skills, as well as resposibility and pride in his extra efforts that would be hurt.  I'm sure it's time to make some changes from the orginial 1993 document, but please rethink passing some of these revisions!  Giftedness is not an all or nothing circumstance; edcuators should encourage and bring out the best in every student.  If that students strength is focused in one area (math), s/he shouldn't be punished because they aren't as strong in others(social science, history, etc).
