Action | Amend Minimum Standards for Jails and Lockups to add requirements on restraint of pregnant offenders |

Hello,
I was surpirsed to learn that pregnant inmates are required to be shackled or handcuffed even during labor. I think that this is a very unreasonable practice, which could prevent the pregnant mother or the child getting the necessary care that they need during labor. This practice also seems disrespectful to the mother and the child.
I understand that The Board Of Corrections has recently started a process to revise the current restrictions. Please consider my stance on the issue in future decisons.
