Shakling of pregnant prisoners

To Whoever this may concern:

I completely understand the reason for shakling prisoners, especially those who are in a place where they could run or distrupt their surroundings.  However, to shakle pregnant women, most especially suring childbirth and delivery, is nothing short of savage.  Having been around several deliveries of babies, I am weill aware of the conditions at the time.  Not only are the babies in a precarious position during the process, but the mothers as well.  There is no reason why this is necessary, and I ask, as a citizen of Virginia that this regulation be overturned as an introduction to the 21st century when it comes to childbirth and prisoners.  Not only is it necessary, but it protects the dignity of the child and childbirth, and not only does it bring up images of the Spanish Inquisition, but it is also totally unnecessary.  Finally it is a measure that respects the positiion of pro-life advocates, for while the mother is guilty of a crime, the baby is surely not.
