Shackling is not the answer

I hope this changes, because I believe that it's wrong. Prisoners, to me, are not what they did (whatever it was), but what they do, rehabilitation is possible, and childbirth can be a transformative experience, and shackling during childbirth IS inhuman. Some kind of oversight is surely needed for birthing mothers who are impulsive, especially during a time of heightened emotions like childbirth. Doula volunteers can be so helpful during this time to help keep the mothers more present in the experience, rather than preoccupied by the urge to flee or possibly harm others, and certainly an actual guard (not hospital security) should be present. Childbirth should ideally be a private, sacred experience, but if there's reason to believe the mother would harm herself, her baby, or attendees, that's a right she must forfeit. Some woman are pretty hardened and capable of great harm, and that has to be taken into account for everyone's safety. The shackling is overkill, I think.
