Oppose the proposed changes

Sometimes, engaging in the IEP process can seem like an adversarial process than a cooperative one.  It seems as though the main purpose is to save money not what is best for the children.  Many times the special education teachers see a need for more services but are not allowed to officially state these opinions because of pressure from administration.  Therefore it is up to the parent to step in and make sure that their childrens best interests are taken into account.  My son is Autistic and we have been struggling with the special education program in Virginia for 16 years.  The idea that parents do not have the right to protect their children and can be totally left out of important decisions in regards to services and/or eligibility is wrong.  Therefore, I oppose the proposed changes.
