| Purpose of the meeting The Department of Environmental Quality will convene a public hearing on a draft construction permit for Morgan Lumber Company, Inc. in Red Oak. Morgan Lumber Company, Inc. has applied for a permit to construct a major modification at the Morgan Lumber Company, Inc. The facility is a lumber mill. The proposed permit would allow construction and operation of a second continuous kiln and amend the permit dated January 4, 2010 (amended August 16, 2010) to limit the total board feet of lumber processed through the proposed kiln and the facility’s permitted kiln. The proposed facility is classified as major source of air pollution. The maximum annual emissions of air pollutants from the facility under the proposed permit are expected to be: 241.4 tons per year of volatile organic compounds, 48.9 tons per year of nitrogen oxides, and 133.4 tons per year of carbon monoxide emissions. The applicant proposes to use saw dust for fuel. The technology that will be used to control the air pollution from the lumber kilns is operating the kiln in accordance with the manufacturer’s operating recommendation. No add-on air pollution control is proposed. No adverse impact on air quality near the facility is expected from the proposed project. The public comment period begins on November 16, 2016 and ends on January 3, 2017. | |
