Amendment to 6VAC20-250-260

Section 6VAC20-250-260 should be amended to remove two sections of paragraph B. A licensed bail bondsman shall not:

1. Solicit bail bond business or have any person solicit on his behalf by directly initiating contact with any person in any court, jail, lock-up, or surrounding government property.

The Norfolk courthouse has a bail bondsman desk when bondsmen spend the day soliciting business.  This regulation needs to be removed so that bail bondsmen who abide by the Department of Criminal Justice Services regulations may sit in the courthouse and compete for business.

2. Leave any type of advertising material in any court, jail, lock-up or surrounding government property.

For well over a year this regulation has been violated on a daily basis in the Virginia Beach court and detention facility.  This regulation needs to be removed so that bail bondsmen who abide by the Department of Criminal Justice Services regulations may also compete for business by advertising within the Virginia Beach court and detention facility.
