As an orthopedic surgeon in Virginia I believe that dry needling has been a great addition to the overall care of my patients seen in PT.  The therapists have been well trained and explain in detail what patients should expect with dry needling.  The therapists providing this treatment are clear about the differences between dry needling vs. acupuncture.  Physical therapists have extensive knowledge about the body, and with additional training through continuing education, are certainly qualified to provide this service.  This is a beneficial treatment option and should be performed by physcial therapists.
