Regulations for Licensure of Abortion Facilities

Regulations for licensure of abortion facilities should be based on sound medical facts and evidence based medicine with the goal of promoting health and safety, not political agenda or religiously motivation.

Proposed regulations create barriers to access without increasing safety, and may promote alternative, unsafe and illegal abortion.

For many years first trimester abortion has been proven to be safe and affordable in free standing clinics, such as those which meet National Abortion Fedration guidelines. First trimester abortion poses virtually no threat to fertility, cancer risk, or mental health. The greatest risks are created by delay, often caused by difficulty obtaining an affordable provider.

Virginia's proposed regulations will increase delay, and attendant risks without improving the health nor safety of Virginia women.
