Game: Otter [4 VAC 15 ‑ 170]
|Description||This regulation enables the agency and the citizens to manage otter populations to control impacts to the human health, safety and livelihood of the people of Virginia. By allowing for the harvest and population control of otter. The Department is providing for human health by reducing the chance for human/otter interaction. This regulation further provides for citizen safety by prescribing methods of take and seasons. The regulation also enables the agency to efficiently and economically accomplish the important governmental function of bobcat management by enabling the citizens to participate in recreational trapping seasons. These activities provide recreational opportunity and stimulate the economic development of the Commonwealth.|

|Goals of Regulation||
To maintain optimum populations of otter to serve the needs of the citizens of the Commonwealth.
To allow the reasonable use of the otter resource by the public while maintaining healthy populations of the species.
To provide opportunity for all to enjoy trapping otter, watching wildlife, and related outdoor recreation.
To promote safety in connection with trapping otter.
